The Boy Who Dared, by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, is a riveting story told from an unlikely point-of-view, that of a German citizen. Bartoletti walks us through the turmoil experienced by Helmuth Hϋbener as he defines himself through his actions in a dangerous time and place. Helmuth’s story is an emotional journey through the dark times of Nazi occupied Europe in which he is defined by his acts of courage and sacrifice.

Through his determination, we encounter a boy whose mission it is to deliver the facts he garners from listening, illegally, to the BBC radio broadcasts in his darkened kitchen. He risks all by typing what he learns and distributing it in leaflets around the city. If caught Helmuth is sure to face torture, if not death, by the very people he is trying to expose.

I am a creative, enthusiastic teacher who wants all children to be successful learners through the encouragement of creative expression. I have spent the last seventeen years developing the necessary skills to achieve this goal. It is very important to me that every child learns in a fun and engaging manner.
During my career as a teacher, I have been an English department chair, technology representative, curriculum writer, and classroom teacher. In each of these roles, I have gained knowledge that I have been able to apply in my classroom.
I am particularly proud of the “Teacher of the Year” award I earned in 2011. I have always strived to be the best teacher possible. I bring creativity and innovation to my instruction. I enjoy creating lessons that inspire, motivate, and facilitate the learning of every child.
I hope to see your child in my classroom soon.
