Summer classes to follow!

In The Art Lab, you’ll experience a welcoming and creative space where you’ll grow as an artist each week. We begin every class with introductions, allowing everyone to engage with the group, share a little about themselves, and get comfortable with the class. This interactive start sets the tone for a fun and supportive learning environment where your ideas and creativity are celebrated.

Each week, we’ll explore fresh inspiration, whether it’s from books, famous artists, or the natural world. I’ll present a piece of imagery to focus on, helping us connect with the theme of the class and giving you a chance to see how different subjects can inspire your art. I’ll also show a sample art project to give you a sense of what we’ll create, guiding you through the process.

As we work on the project, I’ll teach you the essential elements and principles of art—like color, line, shape, pattern, and texture—while encouraging you to add your own unique touch to your piece. My teaching style is fun, encouraging, and designed to help you feel confident in experimenting with different materials and techniques.

At the end of each class, we’ll share our work with the group, celebrating the different ways everyone has interpreted the lesson. It’s a wonderful way to connect, give and receive feedback, and see how everyone’s creativity shines. Whether you're a beginner or have experience, this class is all about having fun, being creative, and growing as an artist.

Hi there! I’m Erika Waters, and I’ve been teaching art for 18 years across a variety of settings—public schools, art studios, and homeschool co-ops. Additionally, I've taught English online for 5 years. With a BFA in Art Education (K-12), I’ve had the privilege of sharing my love for art with students of all ages and backgrounds.

My teaching philosophy is simple yet profound: art isn’t just about creating beautiful images; it’s about connecting to the world around us. Whether we’re sketching, painting, or exploring mixed media, every project helps us develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we live in. Art teaches us to observe more closely, think more creatively, and express our unique perspectives. I believe that learning to be better at art helps us connect more deeply with life itself.

In my classes, I strive to create a fun, engaging, and educational environment where students feel empowered to explore, experiment, and grow. I believe that art should be a joyful experience, and I aim to inspire creativity, confidence, and curiosity in every student I work with.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me camping with my husband and three kids, tending to my garden, or sipping on a warm cup of chai tea—my favorite way to unwind and recharge. I’m so excited to share this creative journey with you and help you develop your artistic skills while having lots of fun along the way!
