The cornucopia, or the "horn of plenty," is an ancient symbol of abundance and nourishment. This horn-shaped basket filled with fruits, vegetables, nuts, and flowers is a symbol of an abundant harvest, and the sharing of that abundance with friends and family. Learners will be introduced to the cornucopia as a symbol of the Thanksgiving holiday season. Learners will make art with the theme of abundance. Learners will reflect on what they are thankful for in their own lives. Learners will create their own cornucopia collages.
My grandmother, who had a large mural of a cornucopia on her kitchen wall, taught me about this symbol at an early age. I created this class in gratitude for her life (Frances Mary Czuba d. Oct. 13, 2020). I look forward to teaching the next generation about this symbol of abundance, and art that lasts through the generations.
