In this one time class, dancers will participate in activities to foster early tap and rhythm skills. They will learn basic tap steps, such as shuffle steps, shuffle hop steps, shuffle cross digs, toe taps, heel digs, and ball changes. They will engage in different activities and games that help them learn rhythms and ‘find the beat’ and counts in music utilizing bells, toy drums, or a pot and spoon from home. Dancers will also learn mini tap dances to show off their new tapping steps. ...
I studied all styles of dance beginning at age five and attended dance conventions from some of the top teachers and choreographers in the industry. I enjoyed tap dancing for my talent presentation in the Miss North Dakota Scholarship pageant program, winning the talent award at various local contests and on the state level. I taught all styles of dance to all ages for over fifteen years at dance studios, park and rec programs, and independently. My speciality quickly became preschoolers and I also developed a dance class experience for parents and toddlers to enjoy together in 2006 when I was seven months pregnant with my second child who is currently studying with the School of American Ballet in New York City. I have attended the Dancer Teachers Summit in New York City, taking classes and seminars with some of the top children's dance teachers in the country. I am fortunate to have access to a vibrant arts community in New York City which constantly inspires my teaching.
Tap shoes are optional. If a dancer does not have tap shoes, sneakers are a good option. Some sort of drum or bell for making rhythms. It could be a toy drum, a pot and a spatula, a bell, or more. For individuals signing up the day of or close to class time, search those kitchens:). Water bottle
Dancers should have a safe, clear space to move in. Please remove toys or other tripping hazards and anything with sharp edges.
