수업 소개
Welcome engineers! Join us to develop your perseverance and problem solving skills by participating in the engineering design process as we complete a different STEM (STEAM) challenge using various craft supplies and/or materials such as recycled items collected around the house. Some challenges may require specific supplies, and those will be posted in the classroom prior to the start of the live meeting and posted in the class description. Students will learn about and participate in the engineering design process as they complete their challenges. Please keep in mind that depending on the materials and methods chosen, there may not be time to finish the project during the time allotted. All learners of varying abilities and needs are welcome to join. Week 1 - Gumdrop/Mini Marshmallow and Toothpick Structure (gumdrops or mini marshmallows and toothpicks needed) Week 2 - Squirrel Zip Line (string or yarn needed) Week 3 - Marble Coaster (marble needed along with cardboard tubes, pool noodles, plastic or paper cups, or cardboard to cut for roller coaster track ) Week 4 - Catapult (small items to launch) Week 5 - House to Withstand the Elements (bottle of water and fan needed) Week 6 - Marble Maze (Shoe box, pizza box, or other flat box) Week 7 - Protect a Dragon Egg (2-3 eggs, can be hard boiled) Week 8 - Mars Rover

Using hot glue is optional, however, students may need assistance if you allow them to use it for their STEM project.

- Gumdrops or mini marshmallows and toothpicks needed for 1st week’s class Supplies needed for other classes: - Scissors - Glue (may want Elmer’s, Tacky, and hot glue) - Tape (may want a variety such as clear, masking, and duct tape) - marble - cardboard tubes, pool noodles, plastic or paper cups, or cardboard to cut for roller coaster track - small items such as mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, popcorn kernels, M&Ms, or beads) - bottle of water and fan - shoe box, pizza box, or other flat box/case from canned food items - 2-3 eggs (can be hard boiled) Various STEM Supplies *This is just a list of suggestions. Students will design their projects based on the supplies they have available to them. I find that recyclable materials work great such as small boxes and plastic containers from food packaging. Construction paper, card stock, or craft foam (any color) Yarn or string Cereal boxes Small boxes (mac and cheese, jello, etc.) Small plastic containers (yogurt, pudding, sour cream, k-cups, medicine bottles, etc.) Toilet paper or paper towel tubes Paper plates, bowls, or cups Cupcake wrappers Coffee filters Tooth picks, Q-tips, cotton balls Craft sticks Pipe cleaners Buttons Aluminum foil, wax paper, or plastic wrap Foam shapes Bubble wrap Styrofoam peanuts Styrofoam trays
