Let's incorporate critical thinking and problem solving into a fun science activity for kids! This egg drop challenge is great for a variety of ages. Learners create a container that will protect an egg from breaking from a high fall. They can make this challenge as simple or complex as you want. It’s always one of the most memorable experiences for students each year!

It’s never too early to start to learn to public speak. After a quick Ice-breaker activity, learners will have an opportunity to discuss ideas together and see various examples of egg drops before they begin building their own egg drop device with any art supplies they already have at home (supply ideas provided) for a few minutes, before presenting their work to each other, if comfortable. They will practice working independently on their containers, while discussing with the teacher and each other ways to keep the egg from breaking from a high fall.

No experience necessary in the topic, challenge, or speaking skill. All learners are welcomed. Participation is encouraged but not mandatory, if a learner is not comfortable speaking.

Prior to class, please find art supplies to have during the class that you feel is appropriate to use. Students will begin creating an egg container in 20 minutes with anything they already have and can use found around the house, after going over the basic vocabulary, procedures, and safety rules, STEAM planning process and data recording skills together. It is expected that the student will continue to work on their project after the class with the supervision of a parent/guardian.

Handouts will be provided before the start of class that will include safety measures to be taken (such as washing hands after touching raw eggs, and making sure the height from which the egg will be dropped will be safe and an adult is with the learner.), a planning sheet to draft out the design, and a recording sheet to make predictions of various contraptions being observed.

This STEAM project is not to create any more mom-performance anxiety, but to allow children to independently use their imaginations, have fun and be creative, while practicing public speaking and communication skills together.

Hello!

My name is Ms. Stephenie. I have been teaching various subjects for over 28 years. Although I had a few major career changes, the one thing that never changed was my passion for teaching anyone who wants to learn.

While I have a Biomedical Engineering degree from Columbia University, my students also come to me to learn non-STEM subjects, test taking strategies, music and more.

I have taught basic introduction to advanced levels in various subjects, such as math (Singapore Math, Algebra, Pre-Calc, and etc.), sciences (biology, earth science, chemistry, physics), medical/dental subjects, STEAM/STEM topics, language arts, history, languages (Mandarin Chinese, ESL), test prep (SAT, SSAT, SHSAT, ACT, AP, MCAT, DAT, COGAT/OLSAT, NYS Regents, and etc.), robotics/coding, interviewing skills (former interviewer), public speaking, and music (former competitive piano and violin player) 🎶 . I teach music theory to beginner students of all ages in fun interactive ways and have helped them with their music auditions.

As an Educational Consultant, private admissions consultant, teacher, tutor, a stay-at-home mother, PTO mom, baseball/softball and field hockey Coach, Robotics Coach and Girl Scout Troop Leader, I am passionate in guiding students to try new things, be successful in what they do and to help them accomplish their personal goals, whether it is to learn how to play tennis, or to bake cookies made from scratch, to scoring high on their college admissions exams. I enjoy what I do and always find teaching to be the best part of my day. I also love teaching my own two kids, so I understand what kind of classes kids will enjoy and learn from.

With the current technology and virtual platform, my students come from all over the world. And I also enjoy learning from my students, as not one student is alike and can teach me so much about their culture, interests and experience. There’s always so much to learn from each other. And I strongly encourage the love of learning. So let’s begin this journey together!

I am happy to try to accommodate your busy schedules, so please feel free to reach out if there is a class of interest you would like to attend, and we can work out a schedule together!

I can’t wait to see you in my classrooms!
