In this class your learner will learn the difference between a spider and an insect by learning the parts of a spider's body and the group they belong to, arachnids. They will learn that spiders eat bugs by constructing a web of silk, which is very helpful to people and animals. Learners may color 1 of 2 color sheets provided as they listen to The Very Busy Spider read by Ms. V. and engage in story discussion. Students will learn the difference between insects (3 body parts, 6 legs, wings) and spiders (2 body parts, 8 legs, no wings). Students will learn that spiders belong to a group called arachnids. Students will learn the body parts of a spider. (head, body/abdomen, 8 legs, 2-8 eyes, 2 feelers/pedipalps, spinnerettes) Students will learn how spiders capture bugs in silk webs for food. Students will answer story-related questions and re-tell parts of the story The Very Busy Spider. Students will make a spider craft. Student will learn weird fun-facts about spiders. Example: The Goliath Bird Eater spider is as big as a paper plate!

Also, 1 glue stick and 1 craft stick or pencil. Crayons needed if black and white version chosen. *Downloaded Color sheet and crayons. If printer not available, a spider can be drawn on paper to color. Additional resources: * Parts of a Spider Cut & Glue worksheet- scissors and glue *Spider Word tracing Worksheet- writing tool *Bonus: Spider and Insect Color Stick puppets- scissors, glue, 2 craft sticks or 2 pencils

Students will view short YouTube video clips and images of spiders spinning a web and wrapping its prey (insect). Students will view a short video clip of a spider "dancing" and other images/video clips of spiders. Students will need the pieces of one of the craft downloads to be cut out prior to class. Students will need assistance from an adult. Students will use a glue stick and a craft stick (or pencil ) to assemble the craft. Adult assistance may be needed. No parent accounts will be needed as all images, videos and google slides will be shown via shared screen in Zoom.
We will listen to Ms. V. read The Very Busy Spider by: Eric Carle. Google slides will be used to share images and YouTube video clips via shared screen in Zoom.
