Hello everyone, in this ongoing class we will have fun showing our competitive spirits while learning. This class is for students from 9 to 11 years of age that love to learn and interact with other students. At the beginning of class, students will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and get to know each other. Each student will be encouraged to share an exciting part of their day. Students will be taught a group of vocabulary words in the beginning of each class. Slideshows will be used to teach the spelling and meaning of each word. Students will participate in a variety of fun activities to practice the vocabulary. Once the students have a grasp on the vocabulary, there will be a spelling bee. If time permits we can do multiple rounds. All students will participate in these spelling bees. The words for each student will be chosen at random from the group of previously learned words as well as high frequency (frequently used) words that all students should already know. The winner of each round will be offered a discount to use for the next class or any of my other classes. *I teach the Scripps National Spelling Bee rules* *Spelling bee rules may differ from your local school's rules* *Classes may run long* WEEK OF JAN 18 • Theme: Occupations • Activity: Silly Sentence Making -Write three silly sentences using your choice of vocabulary words. Choose one to share with the class. WEEK OF JAN 25 • Theme: Medical • Activity: Rainbow Words -Make a rainbow using the vocabulary words. Use the colors of the rainbow. WEEK OF DEC 7th – DEC. 13th • Theme: Animals • Activity: Word Pyramid -Write the words in a pyramid. Put the longest words on the bottom and the smallest on the top. WEEK OF FEB 1 • Theme: Weather • Activity: Word Search -Help solve the word search as a class. Each student will get to participate. WEEK OF FEB 8 • Theme: Transportation • Activity: Rolling Rainbow: -The teacher will color code the list of words. The teacher will roll a die. Each color will have an assigned number. Students must choose a word of the chosen color to write. WEEK OF FEB 15 • Theme: Marine Life • Activity: Hidden Word Drawings -Draw a picture related to the weekly theme. Choose 3 words to hide into the picture. See if your teacher and classmates can find the words!

Hi everyone, my name is Kayla. I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am also TEFL/TESOL certified. My everyday occupation is an ESL teacher. I teach English to kids who are 3-13 years old.
Teaching is a passion of mine and I love being creative with my lessons. I enjoy teaching English but I also love sharing my passions with my students. Some of my passions are baking, art, dogs and car racing. In my classroom, students are encouraged to have fun and be creative while learning. When I teach, I use props, slideshows and interactive activities to help students understand the lessons. My classroom is a safe space where everyone is respected and treated fairly. I believe that peer-to-peer interactions and feedback are essential to a child's education. My classes are fun and educational at the same time!
