During my time as an elementary school teacher for the gifted, I realized many gifted students were longing for help learning how to better understand their emotions and interact with their peers. I developed a curriculum for helping students gain skills and confidence in this area. This course is designed to help students do the same from the comfort of their own home in a safe and inclusive environment. Students will learn more about how being gifted affects their brain, specifically their social and emotional growth and development. Learners will engage in discussion and role play to practice skills for improving their social/emotional experience and interactions.
I have over fifteen years experience as an educator, with a Master's Degree in Curriculum Instruction and Development and a Gifted certification. I have taught in both inclusive and self-contained gifted environments. Additionally, I have previously acted as a parent advocate and coach for parents of gifted children while also authoring the book The Everything Parents Guide to Raising a Gifted Child published at the request of Adams Media. I have been leading student and parent groups for gifted children for over ten years. I'm passionate about helping gifted students reach their maximum potential in all areas of life, not just their academic ones.

A variety of handouts will be provided to students for each session to be printed out ahead of time.
Parental guidance is not required as long as the student is comfortable using the basic features of the Zoom chat. The chat feature will be turned off unless a parent requests access prior to the class based on their individual child's personal needs. The instructor is happy to accommodate any learning differences and/or disabilities as long as notified prior to the start of the lesson.
