In this course we will read some The Pigeon Needs a Bath! excerpts, will learn some sight words and early words geared for Kindergarten and First Grade students.   We will practice sounding out words and learn to love the art of comedy in books. This book is so funny. Every student will get a chance to practice reading. The pigeon has some strong emotions about bathing (or not) which are demonstrated through words and illustrations in the book. We will practice those emotions using our early acting skills as well. My energetic teaching style will help students get excited about reading and my goal is to help these early readers learn to love reading as much as I do. 

Each class period, students will first be introduced to the sight words we are working on that day and then read them in the book’s excerpts. Students will be encouraged to read as much or as little as they are able and willing. We will play games and review some tips and hints on how to help the readers remember important sounds and letters for the words we focus on during lessons.  

Parents can expect their reader to become more familiar with 20 words off of the Kindergarten sight word list and be able to sound out some 3-4 letter cvc words.  

Please bring a paper and pencil to class so we can doodle and practice writing our words as we learn them.
