Learning to read is hard work! It can be especially frustrating when some of our most common words do not follow the rules we learn to help us decode. With these words, we just have to know them by heart!
In this class, learners will become familiar with "heart words" by engaging in fun activities. I use Reading A-Z curriculum to present words both in texts and alone to help learners memorize how each word sounds and what it means in context. This curriculum provides texts that focus on several different words at a time, so learners will be engaging with many words each lesson. This also provides that words of varying levels will be presented each week and lessons will not build on the lesson from the previous week. Learners can jump in anytime! 

Texts and focus words for upcoming lessons are as follows:
Week of Feb 20th: "We Go Up" - up, down, we, they, go, on, in, the (heart words: we, down, they, go, the)
Week of Feb 27th: "Some Have" - some, have, one, of, two, the (these are all heart words for early readers :))
Week of March 6th: "I Was With" - was, with, my, he, her, she, his, a, the 
Week of March 13th: 'What is Out There?" - what, out, there, your, is, in, on, the

Each lesson will include an introduction to our target words and an activity to help learners recognize them in text. 
Learners will need to bring a dry erase board and marker or other tools for writing to each class. Writing these words in our own hand will help us remember them later!
