수업 소개

Auditioning for a musical theater production can be exciting and scary. Auditioning is the essential job of an actor. You need to master the audition process if you want to land those parts. This workshop is designed to teach the essential skills for auditioning for musical theater. Students will learn how to prepare for an audition, what to expect in the audition room, how to choose a song & the 16-bar edit, what to look for in a monologue, what to do when/ if they are asked to read sides, and how to present themselves in a professional, dynamic, and captivating manner in order to land a role.

Students will also receive feedback on their audition skills and insights about how to make it stronger. We will also cover slating, picture & resume, making an effective video audition submission, handling nerves & fears, what to wear, and insights & thoughts from the directors on the other side of the table.

The 1st day we'll cover audition prep, how to choose audition material, presentation, how to put together a musical theater repertoire book & why you need one, wardrobe, resume, headshot, handling accompaniment and pianist, video submissions, sides, and what the directors are thinking & looking for. Students are encouraged to bring their headshot and/or resume if they have one. Don't worry if you do not have these things. You'll learn all about it that day. Also, the second day's mock audition process will be explained. Students will learn what to expect, what to bring, how to slate, what to wear, and how to prepare.

On day 2, students will be encouraged to perform one 16 bar section of a musical theater song in a mock audition setting and receive constructive feedback and some individual coaching. Students who do not wish to perform will not be required to do so, however, it is very much encouraged. Please notify the instructor before the workshop if you wish to only observe. Participants will need to prepare approximately 16 bars (no more than 32) of a song that best shows off their vocal and performance talents. Ideally, students will play the accompaniment karaoke track for their piece on a phone, Ipad, or another device. The instructor will go over how to do this on the 1st day of the workshop. Students who do not wish to sing/do the mock audition will still learn a lot from observing. All students will be asked to participate in constructive, positive feedback for other's performances, and of course, questions will always be encouraged throughout the workshop.

On day three of the workshop, students may perform their 1-minute audition monologue. The monologue should be prepared & memorized. For those students who do not have a memorized monologue, but still want to present one, the instructor will attach a few monologues to the class page that you may choose to print out, prepare and perform. Although students are not required to do a monologue, it is encouraged. Please notify the instructor ahead of class time if you do not wish to present one. Any student not performing a monologue audition will still learn much from watching & listening to the coaching of other students' monologue performances.
At the end of the workshop, the instructor will choose one student to perform their entire musical theater audition for the class as an example of the whole process. The class will discuss, ask questions, and give feedback.
학습 목표
Students will learn everything they need to know about the musical theater audition process. They will gain knowledge of what to expect inside the audition room and will strengthen their skills & gain confidence in their abilities as they participate in a live, mock audition during the workshop. Students will learn to overcome their fears and stage fright while increasing their poise and presence on stage and in any area of their life. Vocal and performance skills will be honed and students will leave the workshop with the tools and a clear understanding of how to present an effective and compelling audition for the musical theater.

그 외 세부 사항

학부모 가이드
No inappropriate songs or monologues will be allowed. The instructor will preview all monologues & songs ahead of time.
수업 자료
Each student will need a monologue and/or a song to perform. They will also need to use an accompaniment track to perform their song. They may choose to use a "karaoke" track from YouTube if they would like. They will need to use a separate device from the one they are using to attend the workshop. For example, if the student is attending the class on their laptop computer, they will need to use another device, such as their phone or Ipad, to play their accompaniment or karaoke track. They will be able to hear it and the microphone on their laptop will also pick up the sound for us to hear.
Students may wish to bring a notebook to take notes during the workshop.
