Beginner
In this two-day class, learners will explore fundamental concepts in motion and engineering. On the first day, they will be introduced to key scientific principles and receive instructions on how to create a balloon-powered car. The second day will focus on presenting the cars, testing their performance, and learning how to calculate distance, rate, and time.

Day 1: Introduction and Instructions

Topics Covered:

Introduction to matter and mass
Newton's Laws of Motion
Mathematical formula: D = rt (Distance = rate multiplied by time)

Activity:

A brief lesson on the science behind motion
Instructions for Parents:

You will receive detailed instructions on how to build the balloon-powered cars at home using everyday items. Please ensure that you help your child with any sharp objects during construction.

Day 2: Car Presentation and Calculation

Activity:

Learners will present the balloon-powered cars they built
Learn how to calculate distance, rate, and time using the formula D = rt
Discuss learner results and any challenges they faced while constructing their balloon-powered vehicle or measuring their distance.
학습 목표
Understand Fundamental Concepts: Students will grasp the basic principles of matter and mass, and gain insight into Newton's Laws of Motion, including how these concepts influence the movement of objects.
Apply Mathematical Formulas: Students will learn to apply the mathematical formula D = rt (Distance = rate multiplied by time) to calculate and understand the relationship between distance, rate, and time in practical scenarios.

그 외 세부 사항

학부모 가이드
Adults may need to help students with sharp tools and objects while constructing the balloon powered car. A hammer and a nail, or a utility knife will be required to make small holes in plastic or cardboard.
사전 요구 사항
Learners should have basic knowledge of multiplication and division.
수업 자료
See more material ideas in part 1 of this 2 part class. Students will need 1-2 balloons, 3-4 straws, a hammer and a nail -OR- a utility knife, glue or tape, skewers, and the materials of choice to engineer the balloon powered car. A measuring tape will be required for part 2 of this class in order to calculate distance, rate and time.
