Jules Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is a unique story because of his use of current scientific knowledge. He anticipated flights into outer space, submarines, helicopters, air conditioning, guided missiles, and motion pictures long before they were developed. This class will be an interactive adventure for learners where we will have activities which will allow us to delve further into the science in the novel. It is encouraged to read the novel,, but not necessary as our...
Students will learn scientific concepts to include, but not limited to, volcanic eruptions, what the Earth looks like inside, forces of tension, the link between pressure and temperature, and more. We discover these things in a creative adventure setting which allows learners to think creatively about the topics.

We will refer to the novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne throughout the class, but it is not required reading. We will be basing all our adventure and learning on our own journey that is based on the novel. Adventurers can read along with the class, before the class, or be inspired to read the book after the class is over.
