We will be exploring the life and poetry of Robert Frost. We will explore one poem per class: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, The Mending Wall, and Fire and Ice. We will explore the literary devices used by Frost, and discuss possible metaphorical and literal meanings behind the lines, the images, and the poems as a whole. We will be reading the poems in class, and we will discuss each poem in detail. Although much of the class will be reading and discussion, there will be some lectures...
Students will learn how literary devices are used to create powerful poetic lines. They will learn how to discover metaphor, why imagery creates vivid pictures in our minds. We will also learn about the life history of Robert Frost himself. The students will be able to create their own analysis of a Frost poem of their choice.
