In this ongoing class, learners will practice reading comprehension skills. Each week will focus on a different skill: Analyze Character, Author’s Point of View, Author's Purpose (Entertain), Author's Purpose (Inform), Cause and Effect, Compare and Contrast, Fact or Opinion, Main Idea and Details, Make Inferences and Draw Conclusions, Narrative Point of View, Problem and Solution, Sequence of Events. During each class I will introduce the comprehension skill for the week. Students will take turns reading a passage projected on screen in class. Together we will apply the week's skill on the passage read. During the last part of class, students will be directed to apply the skills learned in class to an independent practice passage. The independent practice passage will be provided in the classroom as a printable file.
