Students will learn the sounds of the short and long vowels for A, E, I, O, U.....and three sounds for the letter Y (consonant Y/long E and I).  They will also learn about rhyming endings (ex. at, et, it, ot, ut, etc...) as they are exposed to many CVC, CVCe, and CCVC words along the way. 

I'm a certified K-8th teacher with decades of experience teaching children, most often in K-3rd grades. I have subbed all grades, though, from Preschool-12th grade, and have regularly taught ages 3-18, online, for over four years now.....over 20,000 classes.....in multiple subjects. I was also a director of a daycare center before going back to school to do a Master's in Teaching Program (Summa Cum Laude). I have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration: Accounting.....and even went to law school! Teaching is my passion, though!

There will be no official homework, however, if your child wants to write a rap with their new rhyming sounds, with or without illustrations, they can always post it for the class to read/see.

As a teacher, I'm used to informally assessing students every day, as they learn, so I will be checking/observing for understanding as we go along. Informal assessment is usually done through things like asking questions and also seeing what they choose and do in class, as they pick words for rhymes, say the vowel sounds, etc... Please let me know if you have an educational requirement for a more formal assessment.
