This course is designed to meet students individual reading needs. 

During the first session I will assess the reader and based off that assessment students will have a level that they will be placed in.    Within the Read Natural Program students will work on fluency, vocabulary, decoding skills, and comprehension each time we met.  

One Minute Reader Live is a highly effective, web-based reading program that
develops fluency and supports vocabulary and comprehension.
Improving reading fluency is important for developing readers!

We know that fluent readers:
 Read smoothly and easily—as if they were speaking.
 Read with few errors, and seldom need to pause to figure out words.
 Read at a rate that supports good expression and comprehension.
 Tend to comprehend better than non-fluent readers.

Each time we meet students will get to select their own story to read from a list of many books in their level that they were placed on.  Next, students will participate in cold read of the story.  This is where they read the story completely on their own for one minute.  When the one minute is up students will mark how many words they got correct per minute.  Once the cold read is finished students choral read the passage three times.  Finally, students will complete three readings of the text independently.  With each reading students will mark how many words they got per minute.   Once students have practiced reading they will take a short comprehension quiz.  I will send the full report to the parent after each class.
