Students will be able to: 1. Identify patterns of black and white keys at the piano 2. Identify the musical alphabet on the piano keys 3. Identify standard rhythmic notation 4. Recall finger numbers on both hands 5. Copy rhythmic patterns with counting and clapping 6. Discuss some of the historical context of the piano 7. Transpose pieces to different keys at the piano 8. Perform pieces for fellow students as well as friends and family 9. Compose their own pieces by manipulating previously learned patterns
Dr. Nathan earned a BM in Music Education, a MM in Piano Performance, and a DMA in Piano Pedagogy. He has been teaching since 2014.

Learners will want to practice and perform the songs they learn in class. 90 minutes of practice is recommended each week. It is best to divide this into six 15-minute sessions. Visual aids will be available on the class page to be printed.수업 외 주당 1 - 2 시간

Each student will be assessed with a rubric following Day 8. This feedback will indicate areas of strength and weakness and recommend the appropriate next class.
Learners must have access to a piano or keyboard. A keyboard does not need to be full size (88-keys). Ideally it should have weighted keys and be velocity sensitive (the volume should change depending on how quickly you press the keys), though this is not required for Level 1. Visual aids for each class will be available the day before class begins. I recommend printing these and keeping them in a binder so that the learner can reference them both during class and throughout the week. No other materials are needed.

Although parental involvement is not required, it is highly recommended. Beginning pianists are developing the technique they will use for the rest of their lives. A strong foundation is best established with frequent guidance, not only by Dr. Nathan during the class but also by parental involvement during practice.
