After an initial assessment session, students will undertake readings from a wide range of fiction and non-fiction selections. Readings will be chosen to reflect the individual level and interests of the enrolled student. Reading comprehension, vocabulary acquisition and fluency will be skills that are focused on. These passages will be shared by the teacher through the screen-sharing feature. In addition, students will spend time working with the instructor on a variety of writing tasks designed to improve skills across all traits of writing appropriate to their age level. Instruction can be tailored to fit specific skills families may wish their learner to improve upon.

Hello, my name is Nathan Hoyt. Since 2008, I have been a full-time teacher in the public school system. Now, I am excited to embark on this new journey, stretching beyond the regular classroom and into the engaging world of online learning with Outschool!
For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about literacy. The abilities to read, write and express ourselves effectively are of the utmost importance in basically every situation life can throw our way. It is my deep-rooted desire to meet students where they are at in these skills and try to hone them into even more successful, life-long learners.
I love the opportunity to interact with students in ways that are fun, creative and meaningful. I make it my mission to create a learning environment where all students feel safe, confident, and included. As an educator I never tire of that great feeling of seeing the pride and sense of accomplishment on a young person’s face when they have learned something new and put that learning into action. I would love to be able to share that experience with your students through Outschool!
