In this course, students will learn how to play guitar at their own pace. Each week we will practice a certain skill, and students will be given challenges to practice throughout the week. When the student is ready, we will move on to more difficult skills. The format of the class will be "I do/You do". Students will learn to play their favorite songs on guitar by learning essential skills at their own pace.
I have been playing the acoustic guitar for 15+ years. I am mostly self-taught, and have learned a lot from other musicians along the way. I have played with several bands, in church services, and given lessons to children and adults. I have made it a habit to play every day. My main style of play is folk. "Travis style" finger picking in the style of Townes Van Zandt is my favorite to play. I also like to play rock songs in the style of Coldplay and Weezer. Playing rhythm guitar with several bands I have become proficient in using a capo to allow each song to be played in an "easy" key (like G or C). Understanding key signatures, and how to use a capo makes any song playable.
Learners will need: A 6-string guitar (If you are buying a new guitar for this class, I am happy to give advice! Some guitars you find on Amazon don't hold a tune, and this can be very frustrating for beginner guitar players. A digital guitar tuner (I use a clip-on tuner called a Snark Super Tight.) A capo (We won't use this for a few weeks, but it will eventually be needed)
