“Since time immemorial” means something has existed for hundreds or thousands of years. In our cultures, we say we have been here in the Americas “since time immemorial.” In this class, starting with North America thousands of years ago, we will move through different eras of Native American history (United States based) to the present time. I am a Lipan Apache woman who is passionate about teaching children and adults who we are as Native people. I have almost a decade of experience teaching about Native peoples, writing curriculum, consulting with curriculum companies, etc.
All content will be kept age appropriate. However, some of it may be difficult for sensitive learners. If you have any concerns, please contact me so we can talk about them. This class will discuss things like genocide, land theft, war and violence, disease, child removal and abuses at Indian Boarding Schools, racism and discrimination, harmful stereotypes, and Native political movements in the 20th and 21st centuries. There will not be significant details about some of these things, but they will be discussed in their historic or contemporary contexts. All pop culture will be age appropriate.
