It's a very exciting time for those who are interested in volcanoes! The major eruption in 2018 dramatically changed the Big Island of Hawaii, including Hawaii Volcanoes National Park! The volcano has been erupting off and on ever since, with the most recent eruption on September 29, 2021! This class is part of a "National Parks Passport" series. Living in Hawaii on the island of Oahu gives me a unique opportunity to teach about what happened in 2018 on the neighboring Big Island of Hawaii! I have been to the park over 50 times, and love to bring my personal experiences to every class I teach. The volcanic eruptions of 2018 and 2020 occurred in an area where I have spent a lot of time, where I volunteer for an annual bike race - - our race course has now been covered with lava! :)
