수업 소개
In this weekly art class for younger elementary learners, we will be making a simple yet beautiful picture each week. Sometimes we will use paint or oil pastels, other times we will use markers or crayons, and sometimes we will cut and glue. I plan on a variety of projects to keep learners exploring new ways to make art and new ideas to inspire their creativity. No expertise is expected, as students will be encouraged to do their own personal best instead of duplicating what they see. During the time when we art creating art, I will be creating art with the students. Because this is a younger class, there will be more instruction on how to do each project. I lead by example, and I encourage them as they create. Sometimes we will look at great art for inspiration, and other times we will look to nature or our surroundings for art ideas that relate to the current season. Sometimes the project will truly take every minute of class. Sometimes we will complete the project and have "compliment time" where we take turns telling what we like about each others' work. As a rule, I only allow positive and encouraging comments in class, and I help the students to focus on what they can do rather than comparing with each other. If a student doesn't feel like sharing, they do not have to participate, but I will still ask them a question or two about their art in order to give them positive encouragement. Because this is an weekly class, new learners are welcome to join at any time. None of the projects will require being present two weeks in a row, though students may wish to continue working on their projects after class. Each week, I will post the supplies for the following week in the classroom so you have time to gather and prepare for the next lesson. I have listed all of the supplies that I know we will use in the supplies list for your convenience, and I will tell you well in advance if there are special items we will use. I will also keep updating the list below so you know what projects are coming up. I can hardly wait to see what beautiful art we will create together! Hello! My name is Tina Kaye Houston. I love helping people learn new things! Locally, I've taught art classes that are based on studying the masterpieces by a variety of artists. I have tutored many students in math over the years, and I especially love Algebra and Trigonometry. I've also taught music and movement classes, and I've coordinated and administered standardized testing. I previously taught English to Chinese students online for nearly three years, and we are in our 22nd year as a homeschool family. Two of our children have graduated, and we still have a few years with our youngest child. I'm a scout leader, and I sing in a band. I spent most of my childhood reading books and learning crafts, so I'm good at making things and I love to read. I am a grammar nerd, too, and I love helping students to use good grammar without feeling overwhelmed by rules. What I'm the most passionate about, though, encouraging others to do their best. I have so many ideas, and I really look forward to meeting the needs of a variety of students and their families! I can't wait to meet you and explore new things together!
PLEASE NOTE: In addition to teaching my own classes here, I teach classes with "Just Help Me Learn LLC" here on Outschool. You can find Daily Grammar and other classes that I teach at https://outschool.com/teachers/Phyllis-Bixler Just look for which teacher is listed for each class time.

Class Policies:
1) If a class is small or has especially talkative students, we may end a little earlier or later, but I will always try to end on time.
2) If a scheduled class does not meet the minimum enrollment, I will contact the parent approximately 24 hours before class time to offer to transfer their learner to a new day and time. If requested, I may choose to teach the class at the original time.
3) Classes will begin on time, even if all learners are not yet present in the classroom. To respect the time of the learners in the class, I will contact absent learners after class to see if they had technical issues or other challenges.
4) If no learners are present in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes into the scheduled time before exiting the classroom.
5) If I am late because of having technical challenges myself, I will offer to stay late or transfer learners to a new session.
6) I expect that learners will treat each other kindly in class and show respect for everyone present. I treat others the way I want to be treated, and I expect the same in return.
