In this class, students will choose a Disney Princess to transform into a new genre each week. We will learn about the role of a costume designer by looking at famous works and discover what a costume designer has to consider when designing a costume. Students will design not only the outfit, but important props and describe their importance. The Disney Princess aspect of this class is to help us focus on certain personality traits as we transform them into Steampunk, Rom Com, Superhero,...
Students will transform their Disney Princess into each genre. Students will analyze character archetypes from different movie genres. Students will create a (loose) story line of a movie for their character to be in.
I have dabbled in costume design for years, mostly for theater, and I love to look at costume design for all mediums. I've taught this many times in my studio and am excited to bring it to Outschool.
