Week 1Lesson 1Choosing a MonologueThis week is all about how to choose a monologue that is perfect for you! We will go over where to find good monologues, proper monologue length, and how to select a piece that represents you well as a performer. Students will be given a list of monologues to choose from and will be asked to select one for out next lesson.Week 2Lesson 2Mastering MemorizationMemorizing a whole monologue can feel scary. This week we will break down a series of helpful tips for memorizing our monologues. We will work on putting our monologues into our own words and developing a deep understanding of the story of our piece to aid in where we are beginning and ending.Week 3Lesson 3Given CircumstancesWe will learn all about the foundation for a monologue: Given Circumstances. We will learn the 5 w's and why they are important to know when beginning work on a piece. Students will take turns performing their pieces and we will work together to determine the given circumstances of the monologue they've selected.Week 4Lesson 4Your Character's WantThis week is all about identifying why your character is giving your chosen monologue. Every character wants something and it is the driving force behind your piece. Once we determine what that want is, and connect it with ourselves, our pieces will begin to feel more lifelike.Week 5Lesson 5Emotional Connection to a PieceMonologues come from a deep emotional place and are written so characters can share a deep part of themselves with the audience or other characters on stage. We are diving deep, learning how to use our own emotions and experiences to bring life to our pieces.Week 6Lesson 6Auditioning with a MonologueWe will learn the ins and outs of how to audition with a monologue. We will learn how to properly slate and introduce ourselves and our pieces in order to make the best impression we can on a casting director. We'll practice slating in front of our peers to make ourselves comfortable with this!Week 7Lesson 7Practicing our PiecesWe will perform our pieces for our peers and receive kind and constructive feedback from the teacher. This is great practice for our final performance.Week 8Lesson 8Final Performance! This week is our final performance! This is a super fun class where we get to perform the monologues we've worked so hard on for our peers and receive only positive feedback from your classmates.
