Do you have an interest in world events and politics? Would you like to learn how to build effective coalitions and work with others to solve problems? Model United Nations (Model UN, for short) is for you! In this week-long camp, we will learn about the history of the United Nations, parliamentary procedure, resolution writing, and participate in a conference simulation! This camp will provide a preview of how students all over the world participate in simulations through Model UN. The camp will include lecture, discussion, short video clips, and simulation to help give an overview of Model UN. 

Day 1: Introduction to Model UN
-We will review a brief history of the United Nations and how Model UN has grown as an academic extracurricular activity around the world.
Day 2: Researching Tips and Parliamentary Procedure
-How to choose a source? What makes a source credible? How can we discern what's real and what's fake? We will discuss how to choose appropriate sources to help with research for Model UN and beyond. We will also discuss specific sources that provide a wealth of information about individual countries to help prepare as delegates. Finally, we will discuss and practice parliamentary procedure, the rules utilized to maintain decorum during a conference. 
Day 3: Mini-Simulation Introduction and Resolution Writing
-Students will be provided with their mini-simulation topic and background guides to review for our class simulation. Students will review the background provided and be prepared to start the simulation the following day. We will also discuss the desired end product for any Model UN conference: Resolutions. We will learn about the format for writing a resolution and how to best build a coalition of support to help ensure your resolution passes. 
Day 4: Mini-Simulation (participate in a simulated Model UN committee session)
-We will begin our mini-simulation with robust debate, parliamentary procedure, coalition building, and resolution writing to resolve our specified problem. 
Day 5: Mini-Simulation Finished and Debriefing
-On our final day of camp, we will conclude our mini-simulation and debrief the experience. 

Students will have an opportunity to engage with their peers as they attempt to solve a problem that would be debated and discussed during an actual Model UN conference. This camp is perfect for learners interested in the social sciences and debate.
