👋 INTRODUCTION 👋 I am so grateful to welcome you into this course! This course will teach students about the field of Positive Psychology, as well as other aspects of well-being such as mindfulness, goals, and positive emotions. This might be extra helpful for students about to enter high school-- a situation where most feel out of place. In general, students will learn: - What Positive Psychology is and why it is important. - The components of the PERMA-V model. - The different types of motivation. - How to create good habits. - What mindfulness is and why it is important. - How friendships can be reciprocal and non-reciprocal. - What to look for in positive friends. - How to practice empathy and compassion.
The information in this course is based on a course I took while studying Psychology in college. I hold a Bachelor's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and I have taken a minor in Psychology. In this particular Positive Psychology course, I earned an "A" grade. I've also completed Social Psychology with an "A" grade, along with a plethora of other Psychology courses. I am studying to receive a Master's in Engineering. I am a certified yoga teacher (200-HR YTT) with a certification in Yin. I have been tutoring students aged 8-19 for five years. I have taught this class before to large groups of 200-300 students, and received overwhelmingly positive reviews from my supervisors, parents, and students!

The workbook is meant to be printed out and completed during the course as a "follow-along." This workbook is highly recommended, but will not be graded or assigned as homework. Though this course is about well-being, I do NOT teach any of my own opinions about health in the course as fact. The content is solely taken from experts, textbooks, and other more reputable sources (listed under "Sources"). All academic content is based upon fact. Though some of the sources listed contain material that isn't exactly appropriate for the age group, I will ONLY display information in this course that is appropriate. The textbook and other sources are studied by me, but INTERPRETED for this age group only. If you are uncomfortable with the concept of mindfulness or if you don't think your learner should learn about mindfulness, this may not be the course for you! Mental illnesses are not discussed.

Books referenced include: "Wherever You Go, There You Are," by Jon Kabat-Zinn Ph.D. "Positivity," by Barbara Fredrickson "Learned Optimism," by Martin Seligman "The Happiness Advantage," by Shawn Achor The textbook relevant to this course is "Positive Psychology: The Science of Happiness and Flourishing" by William C.
