Welcome future biologists and naturalists! Do you think bats are dangerous or do you think they'd make good pets? Well, it turns out neither is true and they've got more to fear from us than we from them. They are creatures of the night and biologists that study them also become creatures of the night! Students will improve their understanding and learn about bats in their own area and from other parts of the world as students share their own experiences and stories. Maybe you've had bats in your attic!
I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Ecology/Evolutionary Biology. I have worked for several seasons in the field researching bats, owls, frogs, snakes, and their interaction with their environment and sometimes with people. I care very much about the welfare of wildlife and hope I can convey that appreciation to your learner.
For class, children may wish to bring a notebook with a pencil to make notes or sketch pictures of bats. They are always welcome to just listen in. Curiosity is always the best ingredient!

None needed. No animals will be harmed or handled and there will be no depictions of harm coming to these special friends of mine. The teacher may share a video segment from Youtube Kids that discusses bats with the students and will send any links for review to each student and their parent. No account is necessary to view Youtube videos.
The teacher may show video clips from Youtube Kids on screen-share but, mainly uses slides and pictures from the work he has done with the Forest Service and biologists working in the field.
