In this small class learners will learn how to use mathematical reasoning to compare fractions. I have taught third and fourth grade for three years and have experienced great success in the classroom with this lesson!

Class will start by spending the first 5 minutes reviewing basic fraction vocabulary and examples. Then as a group we will discuss different prompts and decide which fraction is more favorable. For example, would you rather eat 1/8 of your favorite cake or 1/3 of your favorite cake? Students will debate which fraction is larger or smaller and explain their reasoning through a math talk. Math talks are great ways to share thinking and debate. The small group ensures that every child will get the opportunity to share their thinking and participate. At the end of each debate I will use different fraction models (fraction bars, fraction circles, number lines) to show the comparison between both fractions. Then as a group we will decide which fraction is larger, smaller or if they are equal. Finally, as a class students will come up with a "rule" that they can use to compare fractions. By the end of class students will be familiar with three different fraction comparison rules.

After this class your learner will be able to not only compare fractions using different strategies but also explain their answer using mathematical reasoning. The only thing needed to take this class is basic understanding of fractions, for example, being able to identify and explain the difference between a numerator and denominator. By the end of class they will be able to think about fractions beyond just numerators and denominators.
학습 목표
Students will improve their understanding of comparing fractions with like and unlike numerators and denominators.

Hello and welcome to my page! I have always wanted to be a teacher and have worked with kids in so many different settings ranging from day cares, summer camps to now public schools. I have been teaching elementary since 2018. I currently teach 4th grade and previously taught 3rd grade for two years. Growing up I always thought I wasn't "good" at math so imagine my surprise when I discovered that math was my favorite subject to teach. I love helping students understand math instead of just showing them how to do math. I use conversations and manipulatives to help explain math concepts to students. My classes are driven by conversations between myself and learners, which is a great way for learners to share their thinking. I carry the same passion in my writing classes where I make it my goal to show all students that they can be great writers, even the reluctant ones! I am excited to teach online and share my exciting lessons with learners all over the world. I bring a fun and engaging attitude to every class and love what I do!

As far as my hobbies I have always enjoyed polishing my own nails. When I was younger I dabbled with cool eye catching designs and as I grew up I started polishing my nails in order to take a mental break and an opportunity to do something nice for myself. I love sharing my nail care tips and tricks that I have learned over the years with learners who are looking to become nail pros.

So whether you are a math student who is just waiting for that light bulb to go off, or a budding writer or even just someone looking for a new hobby I can't wait to see you in class!
