수학 여름 캠프 1/2: 1학년 리뷰 & 2학년 준비!

In this summer camp class, students will review and practice all crucial and required math topics from 1st grade to help them prepare for 2nd grade, including addition, subtraction, shapes, measurement, time, place value and word problems. 

At the beginning of class, the students and teacher will have a discussion about the topic(s) of the week so the teacher can assess the students’ prior knowledge of the subject. 

Throughout the class, the teacher will introduce and teach the topic(s) using the “I Do, We Do, You Do” method. This instructional method starts with the teacher giving an example, followed by the teacher and student solving a problem or completing a task together, then finally, the student is given a problem or task to complete on his/her own, with support given as necessary. All classes will include instruction, practice, and application problems (word problems). Homework and review material will be available upon request. 

Because this class is ongoing, students can enroll at any time. Classes do not build upon each other. The topics will rotate according to the schedule below:

Summer 2024:
Week of Jun. 10 - Addition within 10
Week of Jun. 17 - Subtraction within 10
Week of Jun. 24 - Addition within 20
Week of Jul 1 - Subtraction within 20
Week of Jul 8 - Addition and Subtraction within 20
Week of Jul 15 - Place Value
Week of Jul 22 - Add 2-Digit Numbers
Week of Jul 29 - Measurement
Week of Aug 5 - Time (to the hour, to the half-hour)
Week of Aug 12 - Geometry (2D/3D shapes)
Week of Aug 19 - Money
Week of Aug 26 - Fun Review & Games

Throughout the entire class, many discussion questions will be asked in order to promote critical thinking, help the students to relate to the lesson, and introduce each topic within the lesson.

This class is best for any student ages 5 to 8, or those students looking to practice and review the first grade math objectives or skills. Students should be familiar with the concepts or topics of the class beforehand. We will review and practice in class. 

The class materials will be presented and shared on the teacher's screen only. Learners will need nothing outside of the Outschool Zoom classroom.
