Experienced and beginning students are welcome every week. I will teach mini lessons and a brief review of rules and a group solve for one or two cards. Then we will play 24 as a group. Students will get to share answers as they see them with the whole group.
This is a popular game (at least amongst math teachers). There are four numbers per card, and players can use those numbers with any operation to reach the number twenty four. This is a mental math excercise, and is not only...Students will improve the speed and accuracy of their computational skills. Students will think flexibly and divergently to consider all possible combinations of number and operation to arrive at 24. Students will communicate their reasoning clearly for their own solutions or if they object to another player’s solution.
I coached our school’s 24 team for many years and sponsored a club. One year I had upwards of 65 children playing 24 in my room in the afternoons!
I saw this game sharpen all levels of math students. Students who practiced regularly gained confidence, speed, accuracy and flexibility in their problem solving.None, unless family wishes to purchase a 24 card game to play at home
