수업 소개
Number talks are short discussions about how to solve a particular mental math problem. The focus is not on the correct answer, but on all the possible methods of finding the answer. Each learner has a chance to explain their method, and everyone else will learn from other people's methods! Learners get a short math problem to solve, but the learners are not allowed to use a calculator or paper & pencil. The idea is to solve it in one's head! Number Talks are short discussions focused on mental math and computational strategies. They promote the importance of being flexible with numbers and using a variety of strategies for computation. All learners are encouraged to share their mathematical thinking during Number Talks. Week 1 (6/22/21): Making Tens Week 2 (6/29/21): Landmark Numbers Week 3 (7/6/21): Doubles and Near Doubles Week 4 (7/13/21): Place Value Understanding Week 5 (7/20/21): Multiplicative Comparisons Week 6 (7/27/21): Fractional Comparisons Week 7 (8/3/21): Making Tens Week 8 (8/10/21): Adding Up Week 9 (8/17/21): Prime Numbers Week 10 (8/24/21): Multiplication Week 11 (8/31/21): Adding Up Week 12 (9/7/21): Friendly Numbers Week 13 (9/14/21): Place Value Week 14 (9/21/21): Finding Factors Week 15 (10/5/21): Doubling and Halving Week 16 (10/12/21): Partial Products Week 17 (10/19/21): Algebraic Thinking Week 18 (10/26/21): Fractional Thinking Week 19 (10/26/21): Partial Quotients Week 20 (11/2/21): Comparing Fractions Week 21 (11/9/21): Area Week 22 (11/16/21): Repeated Subtraction Week 23 (11/23/21): Multiplication Week 24 (11/30/21): Division Week 25 (12/7/21): Rounding Week 26 (12/14/21): Creating Word Problems Week 27 (12/3/21): Comparing Equations Week 28 (12/21/21): Finding Factors Week 29 (12/28/21): Word Problems

Hello! I am Kristen Galloway. I am a curious life long learner, and I want to share my love of learning with others! I am passionate about making learning fun, engaging, and relevant. I want to meet each child where they are developmentally and be a part of their journey of discovery. With a background in general education, I love to teach lessons that incorporate reading, writing, math, science, social studies. Learners should feel comfortable and welcome in the classroom. I think it is important to make learning a personal experience for each learner. I encourage each student to share their thinking. I work create a space where learners feel comfortable to learn. In order for every child to flourish they need to be seen, heard, and loved.
I believe in building relationships with my students and making learning engaging and connected to their lives. I use a multi-sensory approach to learning. I incorporate multiple domains throughout my lessons. I love to have fun in the classroom through conversations, games, and hands-on learning.
I have a Bachelor's of Science and a Master of Arts in Education. I have my TEFL and TESOL certifications. For the past 14 years, I have taught every grade from PreK-4th grade, sponsored a 3rd-5th grade STREAM club and a K-5 book club. I have also taught English online since 2019.
I have a 21 year old daughter, a 7 year old son, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and an axolotl. In my spare time, I love to read, play card and board games, hike, and watch movies. We love to travel and explore, and enjoy the journey as much as the destination!
