Sit down, open a book, point to a picture, and tell the magical tree house that you want to go to complete a master librarian mission with Annie and Jack. You know there are no two treehouses that are the same of course but this one is, well let's just say it's a little bit magical. Meet up with Morgan, Merlin, Teddy, Kathleen and maybe even Penny as they help to solve a few riddles to learn about everyday magic. The Magic Treehouse books are great for children ages 6-9. They appeal to both boys and girls. They are designed to be “page-turners” because as the reader you simply have to know what’s going to happen next to Annie and Jack. I find both readers who desire chapter books but need a small step up love these as well as reluctant readers. There are 2 reading/comprehension levels in the series. The Magic Tree House books are designed for younger, first time chapter book and reluctant readers. The plot is very simple and the vocabulary stretches a reader just a little bit. The chapter and page count range for 80 to 110 pages with a predictable 10 chapters. Nearly every page has illustrations. The Magic Tree House Merlin Missions have a more complex plot making comprehension a little more challenging. There are more pages making the books 10 to 12 chapters, much longer. The illustrations are cut down by 50%. The books are designed for the reader to jump in at any point in the series and read any book of interest. They have a prologue at the beginning to help fill in any important details. To keep the reading excitement going this book club will be very hands-on! We’ll share artwork inspired from the books, play games based on the book, and craft something from the book's main theme. See our trip itinerary below for a few more details. This book club meets once a week for 60 minutes. The focus is on problem solving and creating questions from what was read at home with the family and testing club members memories with games and crafts. **NOTE** Each week the kiddos will bring a book inspired project like artwork, diorama, song, poem, a letter written as Jack or Annie to the class, collage art, diary entry from Jack or Annie, one part of the book turned into a comic, make a travel brochure, model of something or someone from the book with clay, lego’s, or something else creative to share with the club members. The sharing project is only limited to your child’s imagination and available supplies. There are enough ideas here so they can create something new each week. Also the kiddos do need to prepare for 2 games each week using the book they have read. This homework is equal to 2-3 hours per week including reading depending on how fast your child reads and writes. Many kids can complete the reading in 1 hour. This hour is normally broken down into 20 minutes over several days. If they read 2-3 chapters a day they will complete the book in 3 to 4 days (20 minutes per day). This allows them to have time to write 4 trivia questions about the book they read and prepare for the game of the week. Some kiddos will even find enough time to make a special project in under 30 minutes. All Magic Tree House and Magic Tree House Merlin Mission books are works of fiction and include some fictional ideas about possible real historic events. They are NOT meant to be used as historical text books in any way. They were inspired by events, places and people but are not factual. They are a great way to inspire historical exploration and fact finding. What we know about history is always changing as historians and archaeologists uncover new facts. The goal of these books is to inspire children to learn more about a time period Jack and Annie visit, the main theme, to build reading and comprehension confidence. Ms. Kyria created these special book clubs around great books to help young readers fall in love with reading, to express their comprehension skills verbally and to practice problem solving skills through in class crafts. Make sure to read the welcome email so you know how to prepare for the games played each week. 8-week itinerary: Week 1: The Knight at Dawn #2 -Book inspired project sharing -Book Trivia (email 4 trivia questions w/page number where the answer can be found) -Mystery Word (in the book) -Pop up castle Week 2: Night of the Ninjas #5 -Book inspired project sharing -Book Trivia (email 4 trivia questions w/page number where the answer can be found) -Call My Bluff -Folded Ninja Star Week 3: Vikings Ships at Sunrise #15 -Book inspired project sharing -Book Trivia (email 4 trivia questions w/page number where the answer can be found) -I Spy (need the physical book) -3-D Viking Ship Week 4: Hour of the Olympics #16 -Book inspired project sharing -Book Trivia (email 4 trivia questions w/page number where the answer can be found) -Whose Line is it? -3-D Paper Chariot Week 5: Warriors in Winter #31 -Book inspired project sharing -Book Trivia (email 4 trivia questions w/page number where the answer can be found) -Mystery Word (in the book) -Paper Gravity Bird Week 6: Late Lunch with Llamas #34 -Book inspired project sharing -Book Trivia (email 4 trivia questions w/page number where the answer can be found) -Call My Bluff -Build a Llama Week 7: Seasons of the Sandstrom MM #6 -Book inspired project sharing -Book Trivia (email 4 trivia questions w/page number where the answer can be found) -I Spy (need the physical book) -Camel Silhouette Week 8: Stallion by Starlight MM #21 -Book inspired project sharing -Book Trivia (email 4 trivia questions w/page number where the answer can be found) -Whose Line is it? - Layered crayon art Bonus: Each week you’ll receive some extended printable activities your kiddo can do to round out the academic learning these wonderful books provide. Please Read: The books are needed though you can listen to the audios as well online. Check them out from your library or buy them new or used. I haven’t found a used bookstore that doesn’t have these great books on their shelves for about 2 bucks each. Also, make note we are not reading the collection as a series. These books do have a short prologue to catch you up so you can jump in and read the books you want in the order that is most interesting to your child. If your child loves to read about animals then focus on those books instead of reading all 50 plus books. If you have any question please feel free to message me.

Scholastic Books series the whole series for nearly the price of used books (my recommendation) and you can find many people including the author on Youtube reading the books. The physical book is helpful in class but not required. I’m Kyria Kalata, an author, tutor, ESL teacher, and the proud founder of the House of Education. With a background as a TV journalist and a veteran homeschool mom, I’ve explored all mainstream educational options to bring the best to my students.
My classes are centered around reading, writing, and goal setting - the fundamental skills that empower children to take control of their educational journey.
As a child diagnosed with dyslexia, I faced academic limitations. But I discovered that the library was a treasure trove, filled with textbooks and teaching resources that transformed my life. I overcame the barriers set by my learning label, and I’m passionate about helping children everywhere do the same.
Today, I often meet parents who are frustrated because they struggle to teach their child to read. I’ve seen mothers and daughters at my doorstep in tears, feeling defeated. I believe that reading should be a joy, not a source of pain. With 12 years of experience teaching children aged 3-18 to read (including many for whom English is a second language), I’ve developed fun, innovative methods that make the transition to reading natural and enjoyable.
I invite you to join one of my sample classes to experience the joy of learning. Let’s transform the way your child reads and sets goals, shaping a brighter future for them.
