During this class learners will listen to and play drums and any other instruments that they have. This exciting, informal jam session will give learners an opportunity to express themselves through music and dance. Children can use handmade drums and instruments or “real” ones that they already have. We will play around with rhythm and talk about how we might move to different types of rhythms. We’ll get up on our feet and release our energy through movement. Though this class won’t focus...
Learners will work on social skills, rhythm, and self expression through music.
I have been leading informal drum circles for kids for 10 years.
Learners should bring an instrument to class if possible. That can include homemade instruments. However if a learner doesn’t have an instrument, they can still work on rhythm by clapping their hands, snapping fingers, patting legs etc. Learners may also want ribbons or scarves for our movement exercises. But there are not required.
Please make sure that children have plenty of safe, open space to stand, jump, and move around.
