This lesson is based on teaching the children about light, dark, and shadows using scientific understanding and terminology. The lesson will start with a story: The King Who Banned the Dark by Emily Haworth-Booth. We will use this book to talk about what darkness and light mean, where light comes from and how shadows are formed. I am qualified to teach this class as I am a qualified primary school teacher in the UK and have taught this class as part of the national curriculum in schools for a class aged 7-8.

Students will need to have: a piece of paper, some sellotape, a lollystick/pencil that their shadow puppet can be stuck on to, a torch, pencil and scissors.
