KinderPhonics opens the door for Kindergartners to begin to read. Using the Dolch 200 Sight Words list and Orton Gillingham strategies, we start out with the simplest 2-and 3-letter words, and high frequency words. Then we move to 4-letter words with short vowels, then digraphs. Each class period we will incorporate multi-sensory practice including writing, but we also take time to sing some songs, listen to stories, play some alphabet sorting games, and/or watch some age-appropriate,...
Students should always bring paper and a pencil to class, as well as any materials posted in the classroom. They should also have manipulatives available like scrabble tiles (or bananagrams, or even lima beans with letters written on them!), pipe cleaners, play-doh, letter stickers, letter stamps, or letter magnets available. We also do a lot of coloring, so crayons or washable markers should also be available.
