Learners will work on foundational reading skills. They will be introduced to sight words and practice reading those sight words in simple text. In addition, learners will have a basic introduction on how to read. 

I am a certified teacher that has taught Prekindergarten and kindergarten.

Homework is optional but highly recommended for sight word retention. For homework I have provided sight word readers (typically the book read in class)  for parents to print. These are simple readers that cover the new sight words taught and review some of the previous words taught. Learners should first highlight or underline the newly taught word. They can also trace the word with their pencil and color the pictures. Then learners should read the book and make sure to point to each word as they read it. Encourage your child to read the book to different people at home. Rereading the book will help your child commit the word to memory. 
I also recommend that learners have the opportunity to build the newly taught words using sensory play. Learners could paint their words on an easel, build words with modeling dough, write words with chalk, build words with magnetic letters, write words in shaving cream or write words on a dry erase board.
