캥거루 수학 경연 대회 준비: 1 대 1 튜터링: 3-8학년

The Math Kangaroo competition, an international math competition for students in grades 1-12, is held annually focusing on problem-solving and critical thinking skills. 

Prior to the start of tutoring, students will take a Diagnostic test to assess their strengths and weaknesses. This will enable me to be specific in what areas the student needs to grow in their Math abilities. 

Students in Grades 3 and 4 will use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to solve with 1, 2, 3, and 4-digit numbers. They will solve problems using time and clock concepts and do problem-solving with magic squares with a sum of 15. They will also recognize geometric figures and find their perimeter and area. 

Students in Grades 5 and 6 will use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals to solve problems. They will also solve Geometry problems for cubes and rectangular solids.

Students will also solve problems using mathematical logic, clocks, calendars, and magic squares.

Grade 7 and 8 students will use Algebra to solve past Kangaroo Math problems using equations, inequalties, and systems of equations. They will also use Geometry to solve past Kangaroo Math problems that use the volume and surface area of geometric figures.

I like to have students interacting as much as possible by writing on the white board or labeling a diagram or by chatting. I will also ask students to explain their reasoning as this helps them to understand the Math at a higher level.

My style is to keep it light, fun, and productive. I like to give a problem or two for homework that is fun and challenging. Homework is more quality than quantity.

My class is structured with a thought provoking warm-up to make sure the student understood something from the previous class or homework. 

This is followed by introducing a Math problem that introduces the topic of the day. We will then practice a couple problems on the topic with a good variety in difficulty and type of problem.

I like to finish with a fun puzzle or logic question.
