Homework
주당 2-4시간. Homework will be assigned weekly and is expected to be completed and submitted for feedback. Students may complete any project-based homework individually or with classmates, but interaction with classmates is expected and established even if they choose to complete the work independently. Homework, including watching the lectures, should take no more than 3 hours a week, but this will vary depending on the learner and their study preferences and style.
Assessment
Learners will receive feedback on all submitted work. During review weeks, learners will participate in cumulative "challenges". These challenges are informal assessments to help both myself and the learner better understand their current strengths and areas to grow in. Upon completion of the final week of the class, learners will receive a longer statement of written feedback from myself, as well as suggested next steps for continuing in their language journey.

수업 소개

In this 15-week course, learners will begin to learn the fundamentals of the Japanese language, including the primary alphabets, common words and phrases, and the essentials of Japanese history and culture. Classes will be divided in half, with one portion of the week's instructional materials dedicated to language acquisition and practice, and the second half being discussion of historical highlights and culture. This class is a wonderful foundation course for students who have an interest in Japanese language and culture and will adequately prepare them for Intermediate Japanese courses. While a FLEX class, this course is designed and taught in the same manner as a live language course would be taught. The nature of FLEX classes makes these materials more accessible to a wider audience of students, and this class will contain the same contents as the live version of this course. Learners will also receive the same amount and caliber of personalized feedback as they would receive in the live version of this course.
