Students often struggle with summer reading because thereâs no teacher to guide them through the material and help them think it through. In these two sessions, Iâll provide a breakdown of what teachers are looking for in those reports or assignments on summer reading, and I'll walk learners through the work. The first class will be an overview, with time for writing. I'll provide individualized guidance as we go. The second class will focus on making sure each student feels comfortable with what they've accomplished, as outlined below. Class One: What will my teacher be looking for? The art of the strong summary: How do I write a âjust enoughâ summary of my reading without writing too much? The art of writing a strong review: How can I use elements of fiction and text evidence to write a strong review? Class Two: Text evidence in constructed response questions and essay writing. Polishing up our assignments. Quality Check: How do you feel about your work? Three to ten days before class starts, learners will need to message me in the Outschool Classroom to let me know which book or books theyâve been assigned to read. Students should also share any assignment forms that they wish to complete in class with my guidance.
íěľ ëŞŠí
Students will gain a better understanding of the requirements of their summer reading assignment and, depending on its length, should be able to complete one assignment during the two days of class. (Provided that they already read their book!)

A certified (and beloved) middle school English teacher for many years, Ms. Nancy is passionate about sharing her love of literature with students of all ages. Over the years, she has guided hundreds of students through the writing process and taught many students how to craft excellent 5 paragraph essays. Many ninth-grade students have reported that their English classes were a breeze because of the preparation received in middle school under Ms. Nancyâs tutelage. Ms. Nancy attended Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans (https://bit.ly/39ttXnf), received an undergraduate degree in liberal arts (history and English) from the University of New Orleans (UNO), raised three children who were in the gifted program in New Orleans Public Schools, did graduate work in education at UNO and Tulane University and acquired teacher certification through Tulane. She has tutored many learners after school and loves forming long-term relationships with her students.
