Is your student writing good sentences? Are they ready to move on to paragraph writing? In this class, students will learn how to write a paragraph using the “hamburger” method. We will discuss topic sentences, details, and concluding sentences. Students will also learn that “toppings” can make the “hamburger” even better! Each meeting will focus on a different part of the hamburger. The students will write and turn in a paragraph before the last class. I will offer feedback, and they will edit and create a final draft. During the last meeting, students will take turns sharing their paragraph with the class. 
This class is perfect for students who can already write good sentences with proper grammar and structure and are ready for paragraphs. We will build upon those skills. Students will improve their writing skills and even get to practice speaking skills at the end.

Topic Sentences
Homework: Choose a topic and write a topic sentence.

Meeting 2:
Detail sentences
Types of extra toppings
Homework: Write detail sentences include one or two extra toppings. 

Meeting 3:
Concluding sentences
Homework: Write concluding sentence. Optional: Turn in your completed paragraph. Read teacher feedback, make necessary edits, and practice reading your paragraph aloud. Optional: add an illustration for your paragraph.

Meeting 4:
Share paragraphs
