I'll discuss the concepts of self-publishing versus traditional publishing and give important tips for making the best choices for getting your work into print. Students will become familiar with the concepts of literary agents, slush piles, editors, subsidiary rights, and royalties and will learn how to avoid scams aimed at writers. I'm an award-winning author of seven novels for teens and adults, published by HarperCollins, Penguin, Abrams, and international publishers. I've also worked in the publishing industry for over twenty-five years.
I'll provide a one-page handout, "Resources for Teen Writers."
To avoid distractions and to allow everyone to hear, I'll keep students muted during the class. If they have a question, they can raise their hand, and I'll call on them as quickly as possible. Please avoid other distractions, such as virtual backgrounds.
