In this 5-week self-paced sewing course for beginners, students will learn the basic functions of a sewing machine, how to thread a machine, how to use the sewing machine to create a seam, and simple hand stitching techniques. Throughout this course, students will sew 4 creative holiday projects that can be used for themselves or to give as gifts to friends and family. Week 1Lesson 1Sewing BasicsLearn the function of the sewing machine, how to thread the machine, and how to sew practice seams.Week 2Lesson 2Hand WarmersSew small rice bag hand warmers. Learn to sew straight seams, sew around corners, and hand stitching to close the hand warmers.Week 3Lesson 3Coaster/Hot PadSew an easy coaster/hot pad. Learn to sew a 4-square patchwork piece and add batting to create a square hot pad.Week 4Lesson 4Mug CozySew a mug cozy. This project will teach you how to sew a curved seam and attach a button, making it a great skill-building exercise.Week 5Lesson 5Holiday Stocking OrnamentSew a small stocking ornament. This project is perfect for practicing various sewing techniques.
Students will learn basic machine stitches and basic hand sewing techniques.

Sewing Machine Hand Sewing Needle Fabric for each project (the list will be provided with each project) Rice to use as filler for the hand warmers Batting for the mug cozy and coaster Thread to match the fabric choices Sewing Scissors Sewing Pins. A Button for the mug cozy.
Learners will be using a sewing machine, sewing scissors and sewing needles. Proper care for safe use of sewing tools is encouraged. Safety will be discussed and demonstrated in week one and reviewed in each project video.
