Hidden Figures the Young Readers Edition is about a group of black women working at the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory in Hampton, Virginia carving out a place for themselves as black, female mathematicians. Hidden Figures is their story. This course is ideal for families who would like to engage in a book study of Hidden Figures Young Readers' Edition. Each week, students will get a video and a readers guide to complete. Weekly discussion questions will also be posted to encourage critical thinking and engagement among classmates as well as Kahoot! games. The weekly structure will be as follows: Monday: Video Posted Tuesday: Initial Discussion Post in the Outschool Classroom Wednesday: Follow Up on Discussion Post (each learner is encouraged to respond to at least one peer) Thursday: Kahoot! Game Friday: Turn in the weekly reader's guide Session 1 Students will read chapters 1- 6 of "Hidden Figures Young Readers' Edition" by Margot Lee Shetterly Complete Readers Guide (provided by the teacher) Session 2 Students will read chapters 7 - 12 of "Hidden Figures Young Readers' Edition" by Margot Lee Shetterly Complete Readers Guide Session 3 Students will read chapters 13 - 18 of "Hidden Figures Young Readers' Edition" by Margot Lee Shetterly Complete Readers Guide Session 4 Students will read chapters 19 - 23 of "Hidden Figures Young Readers' Edition" by Margot Lee Shetterly Complete Readers Guide

Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain.
Analyze in detail how an author’s ideas or claims are developed and refined by particular sentences, paragraphs, or larger portions of a text (e.g., a section or chapter).

I will direct learners to their parents for futher discussion before engaging in sensitive topics/questions as they may arise.
