Learners will create a hand sewn scarecrow face using the blanket stitch, running stitch, buttons, felt pieces and raffia. No prior sewing experience is required although it is helpful if students have threaded a needle and knotted embroidery thread before class. Students will learn how to sew on buttons for eyes and the blanket stitch to sew two circles together. Glue may be used to add some of the facial and hair features or the student may finish the project after class if needed.
felt pieces: two precut yellow circles (use a mason jar or large glass to size these)
one small orange triangle nose
black small circles for eyes
brown or orange triangle large enough to be a hat
raffia pieces if desired for hair
embroidery or regular thread in fall colors and black
fabric scissors
needle - if using embroidery thread, use a needle with a larger eye
