Explain the history of February 2, known as Candlemas or La Chandeleur. Explain the history of the 47th day before Easter, a Tuesday in February or March. (Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Tuesday, Carnival, Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday) Explain why these days have different names and how they are celebrated.
This class explores the historical significance of two days, which have religious significance for many Christians, while for others they're a national or family tradition. The religious significance explains the calendar date and reasons for some of the names and traditions of these two days. Learners are free to ask questions, but the direction of the discussion will be focused on how people in different countries celebrate these days, not the religious value of the celebration.
