수업 소개
This eight-week course uses storytelling and humour to show the importance of grammar and remembering rules and concepts. Sentence structures (Subject Verb Object), pronoun usage, verbs, punctuation and tone are explained in a laidback format. Grammar quizzes are given in a "Choose Your Own Adventure Style" to make grammar understandable to students. From gerunds to verbs tenses, this course explains grammar concepts to students in a practical way. As the English language uses rules from other languages (German, Latin), it is important to make students aware of how to see sentence construction and use it effectively. This course is designed for students who have a solid understanding of basic grammar but would benefit from getting more precise instruction. If the child is performing at a B-level, this course will give the tools to achieve an A-level of written communications. Students will learn how to edit their writing to effectively communicate without padding their assignments. Students will interact directly with the instructor and will be given feedback on their work in class in a positive way. A typical class begins with a lecture on a specific area of grammar. The application of the day's lesson comes in the form of a story with multiple choice answers where students must decide on the correct answer using their newfound knowledge. Week 1: Welcome and Sentence Construction What is a subject, verb and object? What is the difference between active and passive voice? Week 2: Parts of the Sentence What is a noun, pronoun, verb, gerund, adverb and adjective? Week 3: Punctuation What are the kinds of punctuation we have and how do we use them? Week 4: Verb Tenses What kinds of tenses do sentences have and when do we use them? Week 5: Sentence Problems What is a sentence fragment? What is a run-on sentence? How do we spot them? Week 6: Wordiness and Tone What is wordiness? What is tone? How do we write shorter sentences that are positive? Week 7: Direct and Indirect Sentences What is a direct sentence? What is an indirect sentence? How do we write sentences that are on point, informative, relevant, and free of grammar errors? Week 8: How to Edit How do we edit our work?
