In this ongoing class, learners will study poems each week from the AQA Poetry Anthology for GCSE English Literature. Every two weeks we will take one of the poetry anthology poem, read it and discuss it, making notes on the poem's meaning, context, and the any imagery we can see. In Week One of the poem we will read through the poem, look at any contextual information surrounding it, and discuss our initial thoughts. I am a qualified English teacher, having taught English GCSE in UK schools. I have marked GCSE papers, including the poetry section.
Learners will need a copy of each poem, or the full anthology which can be purchased through the AQA website, if learners have not yet been provided with the poems through school.
Some of the poems are quite graphic in content and meaning, particularly the war poems.
