수업 경험

Students will build life skills by learning to create yummy treats.  Pre-academic skills such as number identification, language and vocabulary building, and listening comprehension will be supported weekly.  Pre-academic skills such as math and reading will be exercised at every meeting.  Students will learn to create from a recipe.  They will strengthen math skills as they work with different forms of measurement.  They will learn time management skills as they attend to the entire creation process which includes gathering ingredients, measuring ingredients, mixing, preparing items for use and, most importantly, learning to clean up after themselves while they are baking and when they are done.  They will also exercise higher order thinking skills as they adapt and modify recipes to meet their personal preferences.  
Although I am not a trained chef I have been working in the kitchen with my mother, grandmother and aunts since I was about 8 years old.  I earned my Master's of Education degree from Northwestern State University in 2012.  I have been working as an Early Interventionist (Early Childhood Special Education Teacher) for 15 years.  I incorporate food science lessons in my classroom on a continual basis.  I have been teaching online cooking and baking classes on the Outschool platform since March, 2020.  
Week 1 - No bake cheesecake - Ingredients include cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice, vanilla extract, pre-made graham cracker crust and optional fruit or sauce toppings. 

Week 2 - No bake Twinkie cake - Ingredients include Twinkie snack cakes, bananas, crushed pineapple, instant vanilla pudding, milk (or nut milk), non dairy whipped topping, cherries and nuts (optional)

Week 3 - Ice box Boston cream pie - Ingredients include graham crackers, instant vanilla pudding, milk (or nut milk), chocolate chips, cream (or nut milk).

Week 4 - No bake Oreo cake - Ingredients include Oreo cookies, milk (or nut milk) non dairy topping, chocolate syrup (optional)
Because students may use dangerous kitchen equipment such as knives, mixers, or microwave ovens, parental guidance is suggested.  Likewise, due to the risk of possible allergens associated with recipes, parental guidance is suggested.
